Our Thanksgiving Feast was so much fun! Canyon Creek Day School Pilgrims and Indians from different classes dined together and shared turkey, cornbread, pumpkin pie and many other delicious treats. What a special day!
We would like to salute all active military personnel and veterans. Thank you for serving our country and protecting our freedoms! Here is Mrs. Augustyn’s Pre-K class reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Congratulations to Kindergarten student Kaitlyn Ouyang! Kaitlyn has been chosen as the First Place Winner of the American Protege International Piano Competition and will perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City in May. We are so proud of Kaitlyn for this amazing achievement. We are honored to have someone as talented as Kaitlyn as part of the Canyon Creek Day School family!
Our students were so excited to welcome the firefighters from Plano Station 12 to Canyon Creek Day School! The children learned all about fire safety and how to Stop, Drop, and Roll. Students were treated to a hands-on demonstration of the gear and equipment the crew uses in a rescue situation. The highlight of the day was exploring the engine and all the hoses. Thank you Plano Fire and Rescue!
We have so many exciting enrichment classes this year! We are offering Art, Ballet, Chess, Amazing Athletes, Math, and Hip Hop/Cheer. New this year are Writer’s Workshop and Person to Person. Private tutoring and piano lessons begin this week as well.
Canyon Creek Art Studio begins Tuesday with art instructor, Angela Lamb. Mrs. Lamb will be taking her students on an artistic adventure as they study the art of Japan, Italy, Germany, Egypt and many other countries. They will create their own masterpieces and explore many materials and techniques. Ballet also begins Tuesday. Linda Guilick will help young dancers develop poise, confidence, and grace as they learn classical ballet and French terminology. In our new public speaking class, Person to Person, students will explore different ways to channel creativity and energy into confident speaking and self-expression with Abigail Birkett.
On Wednesday, Amazing Athletes begins. Children learn the fundamentals of different sports and focus on fitness, coordination, speed, and agility. Also on Wednesday, Kindergarten teacher Sayber Mitchell begins her Advanced Math class. Ms. Mitchell’s students will develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills while learning fractions, geometry, and solving word problems.
Students will be taking it to the streets and movin’ and groovin’ when Hip Hop Dance and Cheer classes begin on Thursday.
Due to the Labor Day Holiday, Chess and Writer’s Workshop will begin Monday, September 15. We would like to remember an important part of our Canyon Creek Day School family, Susan Brady. A gifted teacher and special friend, Susan lost her battle with cancer just a few weeks ago.
We were truly blessed to have had Susan as part of our faculty for over eight years. Susan taught Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten at Canyon Creek Day School and during that time she enriched the lives of not only her students, but their parents and her fellow teachers as well. Susan was a committed and compassionate teacher. Always positive, she was a ray of sunshine at school each day.
Susan Brady was an amazing person, the kind of person we all aspire to be. She was gentle, kind, and loving. She will be missed dearly by all of us.
